# Verifying your payment details and identity

Every seller on Horse Marketplace completes two quick checks before their listings go live: a payment check with Stripe, then an ID and face check with Horse Marketplace Verify. Together they take about 10 minutes.

We ask because buyers often travel a long way and spend large sums on equestrian purchases. Knowing every seller is a real, identified named person is what keeps scammers off the site. When you've finished, buyers see two badges on your profile and listings:

- **Payment Verified:** Stripe has checked your details and bank account, so you can be paid.
- **ID & Face Verified:** your photo ID matches a live selfie of you.

## The two checks at a glance

Do them in this order. The ID check link is only sent once your payment details are verified.

| | **Step 1: Payment check** | **Step 2: ID and face check** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Run by | Stripe, our payment provider | Horse Marketplace Verify |
| How you start | Alert banner in your Seller Dashboard | Secure link we email you |
| What you need | Name, date of birth, address, bank details. sometimes a photo fo your ID | Driving license or passport, a phone or laptop with camera |
| Time | About 5 minutes | About 3 minutes |
| Badge you get | Payment Verified | ID & Face Verified |

## Step 1: Verify your payment details with Stripe

Stripe is the payment company that handles every card payment on Horse Marketplace and pays your earnings into your bank. It checks who you are so it can pay you safely. We never see or store your payment or ID documents.

1. Sign in and open your Seller Dashboard.
2. Click the alert banner to start your payout setup. Stripe's secure form opens.
3. Enter your legal name, date of birth and home address. Use the name on your bank account.
4. Add the UK bank account you want to be paid into (sort code and account number).
5. If Stripe asks for a photo of your ID, follow its instructions on screen.
6. Submit the form. You'll return to Horse Marketplace.

When Stripe has verified your details, the Payment Verified badge appears on your profile automatically. This is usually within minutes, but Stripe can take longer if it needs to check something. If Stripe needs more from you, the alert banner will appear again.

## Step 2: Complete your ID and face check

Once your payment details are verified, we email you a secure link to Horse Marketplace Verify. The check compares your photo ID with a live selfie, to make sure the person selling is the person on the ID.

1. Open the email and click the secure link. You can do this on your phone, or on a laptop with a camera.
2. Choose your document: a UK driving licence or a passport.
3. Photograph your ID. If the photo is blurry, has glare or cuts off an edge, you'll be asked to retake it.
4. Take a live selfie. Follow the on-screen guide and keep your face in the frame.
5. Wait a moment for the result. Most checks are approved straight away.

When your check is approved, your account is enabled and the ID & Face Verified badge appears on your profile and listings.

## Tips for a first-time pass

- Use a valid, in-date document. Photocopies, scans and photos of a screen won't be accepted.
- Lay your ID flat on a dark surface in good light, away from windows and lamps that cause glare.
- Take your selfie facing a light source, with nothing behind you that's brighter than your face.
- Take off sunglasses, hats and face coverings. Everyday glasses are fine if there's no glare.
- Do the check yourself. It must be the same person as the Stripe account holder.

## What happens to your information

Horse Marketplace keeps the result of your checks, not your documents.

- **Payment check:** Stripe holds your bank and identity details, as a regulated payment company must. We can see that you're verified and where payouts go, but not your documents.
- **ID and face check:** your ID photo and selfie are encrypted and processed securely. Once your check is complete, the details you submitted are deleted. Horse Marketplace never stores them.
- **What buyers see:** your badges and the name on your profile. Buyers never see your ID, date of birth, address or bank details.

## Questions and troubleshooting

**When can I list and get paid?** All listings are approved only once you have both the **Payment Verified** and **ID & Face Verified** badges. You need both before you can be paid, too. You can draft listings while you wait.

**I can't see the alert banner**. Sign out and back in, then open your [Seller Dashboard](https://www.horsemarketplace.co.uk/seller-dashboard). If you've already finished the Stripe form, check your profile for the Payment Verified badge.

**Stripe says it needs more information**. Click the alert banner again. Stripe shows exactly what's missing, such as a clearer ID photo or a corrected address.

**I haven't received my Verify email.** It arrives once your Payment Verified badge shows. Check your spam, junk and promotions folders for an email from Horse Marketplace. Still nothing after 30 minutes? [Contact us](https://help.horsemarketplace.co.uk/support-ticket/) and we'll send a new link.

**My secure link has expired or already been used.** [Contact us](https://help.horsemarketplace.co.uk/support-ticket/) for a new one. Each link is for your account only, so don't forward it.

**My ID check wasn't approved.** Some checks go to a person for review, which can take longer. If yours is declined, we'll email you with next steps. The most common causes are an expired document, glare on the photo, or a selfie in poor light.

**I don't have a driving licence or passport.** [Contact us](https://help.horsemarketplace.co.uk/support-ticket/) before you start, and we'll tell you what else we can accept.

**I'm selling for a business.** The checks are done by the person who runs the account. Stripe may also ask for your business details, such as your company number. For ID checks we will require the person who runs the account and the registered business owners (Directors) to complete a know your business ID check (KYB), full details will be emailed on who needs to complete which steps for a registered business.

**I changed my name or bank account.** Update it in your [Seller Dashboard](https://www.horsemarketplace.co.uk/seller-dashboard) payout settings. Stripe may ask you to verify again.
